Written by Stacie, Kellie's Mom:

To those of you who have heard, and those who have not, Kellie and her friend Becca were in a serious car accident a week ago this afternoon (they were passengers in the back seat).

Kellie sustained brain injury, fractured C2 (neck), lung injury (from aspirating at the scene), and a bruised kidney. She also seized in the car and had a grand mal seizure in the ER. She was intabated and a halo was placed on her head and she was in the Trauma ICU at Desert Hospital from Friday night until Monday. During the time that she was on the breathing machine, she signed (sign language - abc letters, etc) to me and so was able to communicate. She was moved to the 5th floor (neuro injuries) on Monday. On Tuesday she was up walking, first with a walker, then without. Yesterday, the PT guy had her going up and down stairs (with help of course). She (we) came home last night! I am still her nightly roommate because of the seizure possibility, but the doctor is hopeful that it was because of the head trauma and will not continue in life. She was advanced enough to not have to be transfered to an inpatient rehab facility. We see a rehab dr. in Fontana (Kaiser) on Monday to discuss her OT and PT needs. She will be in the halo for 3 months and then will have more rehab at that time.

I can't even begin to tell you what the prayers have meant to us. God has honored them. Kellie has a ways to go in this recovery, but her attitude is incredible. While in the ICU one night, I was telling her to put her determination and passion on the soccer field into the recovery ahead. She signed 4#13 which meant Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength."

Please continue to also pray for her best friend, Becca. They both have halos on for neck fractures! It was very emotional leaving the hospital last night. Becca will be there another week, and then transfer to an inpatient rehab facility for 2-3 weeks.
