Riley was involved in a sledding accident that resulted in a spinal cord injury, in Dec 2013. The sharing of info on this site is to allow those the opportunity to pray for Riley on this journey. To contact support team: email@example.com
Riley's weekend just ended on a great note with his favorite team Seattle Seahawks, going to the Super Bowl! I left Riley early this morning after Jason (dad) and Alex got here so I could spend the day at home. When I left they were trying to figure out how they were going to get 2 chairs set up in the room (very small room) so they could watch football. Needless to say they made it work and I'm pretty sure it's the first time the TV control has ever hung from the lift in the ceiling above Riley's bed!! (TV sound comes out of it) It was a sight to see when I walked in. Riley loved every minute!
Please continue to pray for Riley, as he is battling a few minor things despite having a great weekend. Pray for strength this week in therapy and continue praying for his ability to cough. We are so blessed!
It has been a quiet day of rest for Riley Joe. Rest was exactly what he needed. Tomorrow will be spent resting and watching football. He will be cheering on his favorite team, the Seattle Seahawks. Thank you to everyone who continues to pray for Riley and our family! Please continue praying. I wanted to share what I read earlier today. Trusting in God and his plan.
We want to thank all of those who have shown such great love for Riley and his family. That love has been shown through the prayers that has sustained them. It has also been shown throughcountless actions to show support and even to raise money for the costs associated with this injury. We thank everyone for such compassion that leads to action.
With that being said, we want to also make sure that when someone donates and or supports a fundraiser in Riley's name that they have the confidence that their donations are going to the right place. Since day one there has been a team of people volunteering to represent the family, so they could focus on Riley. If you have a way that you want to use to support Riley we ask that you contact one of these people before promoting it. Thanks in advance.

If you ordered 'Pray for Riley' shirts at the event in December, they are ready. If you ordered online after that event they are available also. Reminder that most online orders were "pay at pickup". Those that ordered and requested will be mailed this week. We will have a pickup at the First Baptist of Van Alstyne, Family Life Center tonight from 6-7am and tomorrow from 8:10 to 9:30am.
We have SOME extra shirts available to sell at the pickup times.
Also note that if you have tshirt questions please contact Griff Servati - search facebook. We do not want the family having to answer questions about shirts.
Again we want to thank Paul Anderson of Melissa, Texas and his business Unleashed Spirit Wear for their DONATIONS to make this all possible. http://unleashedspiritwear.com/
It was a great day! Riley had a full day of OT and PT and works hard. So proud of him, he never gives up. Riley enjoyed being outside today for the first time since the accident. Riley spent late afternoon and evening with friends celebrating his birthday. Thanks to Romano's in VA for the pizza. Love our little town. We enjoyed the best cupcakes made by Mrs. McGinnis! Yummy. Riley is loved.
Please continue to pray for Riley. Pray for strength to cough but also for strength during his therapy sessions. He has already done more than they thought he would ever do. God does have a plan, we see it in Riley every day. God is good and we are blessed.
It is Thursday night and Riley Joe is still breathing on his own! It will not be long before we will moving to the SCI floor at BIR and leave the vent behind. That will be a happy day for all of us. He had another full day of therapy that wore him out! It is so good just to have him talking, eating and being Riley Joe. Thankful - God is good. Riley Joe's baseball coaches stopped by to see him for a short visit - always good to see them and hoping soon he will be cheering on his baseball teammates! Riley also had a visit from a few football players and coach from Commerce! The team signed a helmet and made a poster for Riley. It is really awesome to see VA's opposing teams come together and support Riley. Blessed to live in a community that has done so much for Riley and us but to have the support from so many other communities is amazing - when it matters the most they are all one team! Riley's day ended with a visit from some of his friends although he was pretty tired and not much of company but he still loved seeing them. It will not be long and he will be hanging with them again at home.
Please a she continue to pray for Riley's ability to breathe on his own and that he gets stronger each day and is able to cough on his own.
Riley had another good night of rest but had a slow start to the day. It seems his mornings are harder than the afternoons. He has been breathing on his own since 7:00am and will try to go till 11:00pm tonight. Eventually he will just extend his hours until he doesn't have to go back on the vent. It is not only a physical accomplishment but mental one as well. He has to trust himself that he can. Riley had several great sessions of OT and PT therapy in his room today. Tomorrow they are going to try and get him to sit up in a wheel chair and hopefully in a few days he will be able to go downstairs for therapy. It just takes time to get his body to work in a new way to keep his blood pressure stable and him not get sick. Jason and I are definitely finding our way around downtown Dallas (for those of you that knows Jason are laughing right now at that) and all the great places to eat - although dinner is a call and pick up and enjoyed around Riley's bed! Riley's birthday is coming up and he said he wanted to go to the movies! I told Riley to make it his goal and work hard to getting in the wheel chair and able to get around - his reply was yes!
Tonight BIR was visited by a variety of dogs that have been certified to visit the patients! It was pretty cool to see all the different breeds of dogs! They all made their way to Riley's bed and would put there head on his hand. One was little enough to actually sit on the bed with him. There are so many people who do little things that make someones life better even if it is just for a few minutes. Those that take the time to train the dogs and then bring them to BIR and I'm sure many other places is pretty awesome!
Several have asked if Riley still has movement in his right arm and the answer is yes. He is able to move it with his biceps and for those of you that understand SCI you know how huge that is. It is a small movement but they will work on getting his biceps stronger and his movement more controlled. He has not been able to move his left arm yet but we can see his bicep move just a little when he tries. Riley is able to shrug his shoulders with ease. Medically speaking Riley is a C4 C5 complete, (you can research what that means medically) but we believe Riley will be able to do things that medically they say he can't. Prayers have already been answered and will continue to be answered. Riley sent a tweet last week that said #IWILL, tonight he asked to send another tweet - it said #GodHasAPlan There is nothing more powerful than prayer and his determination!
Please continue to pray for Riley and his ability to breathe on his own continues. Pray that tomorrow he will be ready to sit in a wheel chair and get out of his room for a while.
