First off, Betty and Maureen are very grateful for the greeting cards and comments on FB and this page encouraging them as they work to recover. So a big THANK YOU from the ladies on your support, prayers and positive thoughts.
The big news this week is that Betty was moved into the same skilled nursing facility as Maureen. (Brookdale in Lakeway, TX). The move occurred on Monday and was smooth for the most part. Since then, there have been good and bad days; issues with the facility A/C, having to getting familiar with a new staff their operating procedures, and a specific displeasure with the food.
I used the word "work" above because they have been working hard to meet the goals set in their physical therapy plan. Because the injuries were very similar, the plan and exercises are somewhat the same for both. Along with other exercises, they are currently being asked to sit on the edge of the bed and begin putting weight on their feet. Doesn't sound like a big ask, but this seemingly small task is a chore with their injuries. This movement is a building block to getting them to into wheelchairs which will provide them with more mobility and the ability to see each other. Consider, they have been in bed since the accident and not able to see each other yet! It will be great when they are in wheelchairs and can move around the facility for change of view, visits with each other and dining.
Betty is still having pulmonary issues. It is suspected there may be some infection in her lung as her white blood count is high. The doctor/radiologist does not see an obvious sign of Pneumonia in the x-rays but they have put her on antibiotics to treat any infection that may be causing the white blood count to be high. She is also asked to use a spirometer hourly as part of her respiratory therapy.
Here is the address of the skilled nursing facility if you wish to send something.
