Recovery days 4 & 5

The last 2 days have been a whirlwind of highs and lows.  But, overall Christian is making good progress each day. Honestly. I am too tired to even do the day by day breakdown.

Christian's care here at Hopkins has been overseen by teams of doctors. The teams consist of : Plastic Surgery, Orthopedics, the Pain Team and Pediatric Oncology.  Each day, each team is responsible to oversee and maintain certain aspects of Christian's care and then consult with the other teams, the nurses and us to make changes as necessary.

For the past 2 days, Christian has received 2 additional blood transfusions, as his hemoglobin levels have not been stable. Today is the first day he woke up without a fever, and we are hoping that will continue.  Physical therapy was able to come in today and yesterday and work with Christian to actually walk with a walker halfway down the hallway on the unit. It was exciting to see and a sign of true perseverance for Christian.

Today Christian also was taken off of IV medications and is beginning the process of transitioning to pills for continued pain management.

Overall, the doctors are pleased with his process and excited with each new step forward. Prayers are still needed for the continued healing that is taking place. There is no need to rush home until Christian is really ready to go home. He is still building up his strength & stamina and we need his hemoglobin counts to be much higher.

Thankfully,  last night was the first night that he ate anything in days. We are grateful for the progress. Sorry for the late update, but it has been an exhausting few days.

Peace & blessings

Dearest Cuz - you have no idea how much it means to be able to hear of Christian's progress through your clear, insightful and articulate updates in whatever detail you can give. If I could take the fatigue on myself I surely would - but in the meantime prayers continue for Christian's return to good health and all that it means and for you, Aaron and Daniel to just hold on and be strong one day at a time. We are part of your safety net - we will catch you if you fall. Love Karen Eric and Jessi

I know this is a monumental ordeal for your family, so thank you for investing the time to keep us updated. I’m thrilled to hear of Christian’s progress, and am confident that with God directing his team of doctors, his full recovery is certain. Trust me when I say, you are not taking this journey alone - you have a team of people you don’t even know vigilantly lifting up yr son and yr family. God bless

I, Jasmine's friend, continue to pray for this difficult journey. We feel so helpless, wishing we could do something...take the pain away, speed up recovery, accomplish the future plans without more pain and misery, or at least say something encouraging. But we are not the ones who can help... Jesus knows all about difficult journeys and He knows what Christian needs each step of the way. So in my helplessness, I will go to the Helper and ask Him to carry Christian through this journey. I do thank God for Christian's loving parents, who will do all possible in the physical. As you close your eyes each night, know that Jesus is awake and by Christian's side. He is safe and secure spiritually. Thank you for allowing us to be part of this. Colleen

Patrice, many thanks for sharing your updates through the ups and downs. I know it's difficult for you to share as you are processing things yourself. Christian is so fortunate to have strong parents, friends and medical staff as he goes through this journey. Much love and continued prayers for his healing and your family's strength.
