Debra Lynn Sukovaty, of Phillips died in her home on Monday, November 14, 2016 at the age of 56 after a courageous fight with cancer. The terrible disease that took her life could never touch her faith, her will or her spirit.
A gathering of friends and family will be held Sunday November 20th from 5-6 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island, Ne. with a Vigil and Celebration of Life following beginning at 6 p.m.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday November 21st at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father Martin Egging officiating. Burial of ashes will follow in Phillips Cemetery, Phillips, Nebraska.
Debra was born October 17, 1960 in Central City, the daughter of Ivan and Donna (Gutschow) Burson. She grew up in Central City and graduated from Central City High School, Class of 1979. She married Rodney Sukovaty on May 17, 1986.
Debra was proud to be a homemaker and involved in her children’s lives. Hers was the loudest voice cheering if someone she loved was playing. She was past president of the Dodge Elementary PTA. She generously volunteered her time to numerous causes and organizations. She was a longtime blood donor to the American Red Cross, member of the Patriot Guard and Christian Motorcycle Association, a former EMT on the Phillips volunteer Fire Department. As a member of Blessed Sacrament parish, she was a kindergarten CCD teacher for many years.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Rodney; two sons, Raymond (Jennie) Sukovaty of Columbus and Robert (Maggie) Sukovaty of Milton, Fl.; two daughters, Vanessa (Derek) Saxton of Gretna and Desiree (Tyler) Noel of Grand Island; six beloved grandchildren whom she adored; and her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to G.R.A.C.E. (Grand Island Area Cancer Endowment Foundation).
