First Doctor Appointment
Lisa visited her cancer surgeon today to have her drains checked. She learned that one of the two lymph nodes they removed to check for cancer showed a “micro trace” of cancer. However, the second node showed no sign. The surgeon stated that all of the cancer was contained in the breast and has been removed. Even so, they are doing a DNA test on the cancer to see if it would respond to chemo. If it is the kind that would respond to chemo, then Lisa may undergo chemotherapy as an additional step to ensure that it does not return.
We remain hopeful that she will not need the chemotherapy but ultimately remain resolved to do everything possible to make this the last chapter for cancer in our lives. We are not quite sure why the chemo would be beneficial if all of the cancer was removed and did not escape from the first node to the second. These are the questions you have a few hours following an appointment that you wish you would have thought of at the moment. However, we do know that Lisa is receiving the best care possible from her earthly physicians, and the Great Physician above is in charge of all.
Lisa remains in Arlington with her mother, and I have been in Enid taking care of my classes. I still am not fully recovered from my bout with the flu, so I won’t see her this weekend. We are hoping to see each other in another week! Face-time is great, but it’s a distant second to being together!
