Hi Gary...tomorrow I'll be going to meet some members of the Sierra Leone amputee soccer team. I saw photos of these men in July 2010 and was inspired to immediately launch The Peace Project. Most of them had had a limb forcibly removed during the civil war in Sierra Leone -- a war that was called one of the most brutal in Africa's recent history. They used soccer to reclaim their lives. Their story of incredible loss and incredible triumph inspired a worldwide creative community to join hands and implement one of the largest social efforts ever to take place in Sierra Leone.
Since I first saw those photos, I've shaken hands when men who have no hands, and I've seen these men learning to forgive the perpetrators of these heinous crimes, and in some cases live peacefully in the same communities. They have taught me many things...the most important is that anything is possible.
Sending you peace and blessings.
