Your Prayers Worked

I'm writing on behalf of my stepmom, Dawn. She is with my dad and away from a computer, but she very much wanted to provide an update and a sincere thanks to all of you who've been praying for Gary.

When Gary was admitted to the UCSF ER yesterday, he hadn't been able to keep down any nourishment - not even liquids - for nearly four days. He was very weak, very hungry, and in acute pain. Though the medical staff were attentive and helpful when they weren't busy dealing with a packed house, we received some pronouncements on his prognosis that left us feeling close to hopeless.

What a difference a day can make. Today, Gary and Dawn met with the world-renowned UCSF oncology team, who were far more encouraging. Together, they mapped out a new treatment plan. Most importantly, dad's pain management and nutrition needs are being met. He's as comfortable as he can be right now.

We know your prayers for Gary were answered, and we can't thank you enough. We're going to bed tonight with new hope. <3

Thank you. Most of us up here will be able to breath again tonight. Some locals will say Stanford, but if there is someone who has experience, they will disagree NO--UCSF Oncology. We are so glad you went there. Is the commute to Carlsbad over or are they including it in your regimen? Do they still provide a spousal cot in the patient's room? Love and prayers, Christine and Tom
