ROUND 2

It has been too long since I have written, but I realize now that making the shift from the doctors telling us to call the family because they felt Gary might only live hours and or days, to creating a discharge plan with the hospital that would meet the many around the clock needs Gary had because he was well enough to come home, to the last post when it was obvious he was suffering from another blockage, to our current situation...has been a big shift and change in circumstances.

Lets start where I left off. Yes, Gary did have another blockage, but this time we were able to keep him home. It was a joint and sometimes a team effort but we made it. During that week we saw our Oncologist, he was worried about doing Chemo when Gary was once again not able to eat and was very sick, but he also told us that he believed the Chemo was working before and we needed to attack the tumors. We talked and prayed and decided to start round two of the Chemo treatment.

After a week of treatment, with very little side effects, very early last Sunday morning, Gary s body was able to eliminate and we celebrated. Later that same morning we received a text from a dear friend who has been our Chemo cheerleader and he said,

" Early this morning I woke up at around 4:00 am and God told me ENOUGH OF THIS BLOCKAGE FOR GARY, I AM GOING TO CLEAR IT!"  Tears of gratitude were streaming down my face and when I told him what happened and that it was about the time God spoke to him. He then texted back that tears of gratitude were streaming down his face too.

OK, now we are at week three of this round of Chemo, Gary has gone from two tubes, one in his abdomen and one in his stomach, to one stomach tube! Yesterday, the Oncologist stated that the Chemo was doing a good enough job we might be looking at removing the stomach tube in the next couple of weeks. The Oncologist is increasing the Chemo dosage and  way the Chemo will be administered from fluid Iv's ti pills twice a day. PRAYERS FOR GOD TO SPARE GARY FROM SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS, THAT HE WOULD BEADLE TO SWALLOW THE PILLS, AND THAT THE CHEMO WOULD CONTINUE TO KILL THE CANCER AND SHRINK THE TUMORS SO GARY CAN EAT! Our oncologist stated that is our goal. You know what? I believe that we can meet these goals, that God is in total control and that is why Gary is here today. As each of you faithfully pray, and your prayers are heard, God is given all the glory honor and praise, we are humbled.

We are also in round two of the reality of the finical outlook, and again God has been faithful, please know that our many needs have been met by many of you and we are so grateful and relieved. Our current prayer needs are in regards to our current health insurance that costs us $2,000.00 a month, as you can imagine with very little income it has been a God thing that we have meet this obligation. However, I am applying for Covered California and would ask for your prayers that we would beadle to receive this coverage, if we do qualify our insurance cost would drop to $600.00 a month!

So here were are, yesterday our oncologist reminded us that Gary's cancer is not curable, but treatable. Always thankful for his candidness, I grinned as I looked at my walking miracle husband and realized that whatever time we are allowed together is a gift and I will take, and that as many of you who love us and have reminded us, our days are numbered, our loving heavenly father already knows and has always known the day we will meet Him face to face. So incurable or not, this Is the day that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.

There are not enough heartfelt thanks you,s for the all of the support, encouraging words, posts, money, phone calls, texts, pictures, volley ball games and well there is just so much to be thankful for. Every time you each do as your heart leads we are blessed THAT you an be assured of.

Blessings,

Dawn

Praise God! So glad to hear the good news that the chemo is working. Our young friend here locally seems to be losing the battle (VERY aggressive cancer, just took over one leg, taking over the other, after having taken over his back first), but then Gary seemed to be losing the battle also a month ago. I am thankful that God has given you more days together, and I pray that Gary will feel well enough to enjoy them. :) We are blessed at our end. So far Merrill is having very few side effects from his chemo, and so far his remaining cancer (that in the liver) seems to be asymptomatic. Three or four more weeks and they'll check to see if the chemo is helping shrink the lesions at all before deciding whether to continue with the same chemo or change it. I pray that each one of these cancer patients survives and prospers physically as well as spiritually and every other way, and yet I know that God is sovereign and has His own plan for each. In the meantime, God is being glorified in each of these lives; people are being encouraged by the patients' and families' trust in God; people are being drawn into service praying for and ministering to the patients and their families; and it is really a blessing to see the organic family of God in action! :)
