New Diagnosis

Good Morning friends and family,

It has been eight days since dad was admitted to Desert Regional Medical Center with stomach pain and vomiting. We saw several different doctors while dad was there and we were all hoping to have clear answers from them. But, because they did not have the results of the biopsy, they had to watch what they said due to the seriousness of the situation. I am confident, however, that all of us including dad, understood that this was a late stage colon cancer, which had metastasized into the abdomen and was incurable. We had been anxiously awaiting the official diagnosis which came yesterday; here it is, 'Stage 4 Colorectal Mastatic Adenocarcinomas.' Due to a friend of dad's we were able to take this diagnosis and findings of the original doctors to get a second opinion from a surgeon at a neighbouring hospital, 'Eisenhower Medical Center.' The surgeon was clear about his medical opinion based on the evidence presented, so I will be as clear as he was. Due to the fact that the cancer spread to the wall of the abdomen, making it stage 4, this cancer is terminal. He also expressed very clearly what the other doctors had hinted at, chemo, radiation and surgery will only prolong dad's life a short time and he will be seriously sick and in pain the whole time from chemo.[...]

Gary is Home ~

As I write I don't really know where to start. The last week has been a blur and a crash course in Cancer. We are blessed by the love and support we have received and we want you all to know how much it means to us. Each morning Gary gets up and checks his Posthope website. Your comments and encouraging words do more then you can imagine for our whole family. Our children have been champions and we are so proud of each one. Looking back over the last six months of our lives we see the hand of God preparing us for as Gary said, A time like this."  [...]

Great News!

The results of the testing to see if dad's colon is blocked came back negative! No blockage, no surgery and a discharge from the hospital to come home and rest while we decide what to do next. Thank You Lord![...]

Hi friends and family,

It was only three days ago when dad was taken to the ER and it was only two days ago since he was diagnosed with cancer. For all the family it has seemed like an eternity, time has moved in slow motion. Things began to clear up a bit because of the support of all our family that came to visit dad. Their input and support has been a breath of fresh air and has brought a sense of comfort into the whole situation. As for dad's cancer things are the same. The doctors are sure of advanced stage 4 colon cancer that has metastasized. We are talking to family and friends who have been through this before and their support has been overwhelming. We are pushing to get dad into a cancer center that specializes in his kind of cancer. The hurtles are the Cancer Center accepting dad's insurance, which would be nothing less than a miracle, coming up with the money, or somehow getting dad Medicare faster than the two month minimum we were told about.[...]
