Great news, Sad news

We saw Dr. Tasha Hunter, David's oncologist on Monday, March 11. The great news is she did not recommend chemo. This was not what David expected. Instead he will take Tamoxifen, an estrogen-blocker for 5 years. This is a very common treatment. David has Stage 1A in his right breast and Stage 1B in the left. Dr. Hunter explained that the goal for treatment is a cure. If she had recommended chemo followed by Tamoxifen, the increased chances for a cure were less than 1 percent. David will see Dr. Hunter again in a month to check on any side effects.

On the same day, David's mother, Helen Marie Harris Engle went to God. During her last days she was surrounded by all her children, spouses, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many friends. Love for her came from all who knew her. Her neighbors held a candlelight vigil in her back yard. The link below is the article about Helen in the Tacoma News Tribune.

Thanks Janet for the direct link. I will always remember the delight day Latebloomers had visiting Helen's garden. One of my tasks is to help take cuttings from some of her beautiful roses and rhodies.

This is great news for David. I am so glad his treatment and recovery are going so well. That is an impressive article about Helen! What an amazing woman and a great legacy she has left. I can see that David takes after her in many ways.

So glad to of David's progress in curing his cancer. So sorry to hear of the loss of his Mother. For the record, my doc said two weeks ago I could be considered "cancer-free"!! Still take a small hormone suppressor daily for nine more years! Keep us posted. Peg

Hi Peg, So happy to hear that your are now "Cancer-free!" Such good news. David saw Dr. Hunter on Monday. She said he is doing really well. He's seeing at therapist in Port Townsend to regain strength and to massage his scars. We are having a Celebration of Life service for Helen on May 4. Thanks for your support and love,
