Dad is beginning to move his mouth more to say words. He is not able to speak yet, but within time he will learn. Right now the nurse's do not feel comfortable giving dad ice chips to practice working his muscles in his throat to swallow. Dad still get sleepy easy which is to be expected. He is still able to perform the same basic commands. Dad has trouble swallowing ice cubes because his epiglottis is not working properly, which allows food to go to your stomach instead of down your trachea and into your lungs. He has been put on lipitor for high cholesterol. He is still able to move the right side when he is pinched. Dad did have some more swelling of the head and throat. The doctors were monitoring it closely, but without a fever they think it is okay.[...]
