Mar 30

I've been feeling ok this weekend, but unfortunately Levi has come down with a bit of a cold.  I've realized that I don't have a clue what it would really mean for me if I got sick at this point. The last thing I want to do is spend time at the hospital or delay my next round of treatment. Keep your fingers crossed that I don't have to find out!  [...]

Well, the chemo is definitely starting to wear me down a little more at this point.  When I went to my appointment Thursday, my hemoglobin levels were a bit low.  This would explain some of the dizziness and shaky feelings I've been experiencing lately.  My PA looked at me and said, "I could order you a transfusion", totally nonchalant, like he was going to order me a smoothie.  It turned out after running some additional tests on my blood that he didn't feel the need to take any action, but this opened my eyes to the fact that at some point I may hear something other than, "you're doing great" at one of these check-in appointments.  It was a scary realization.  [...]

Not much new going on.  I am slowly starting to feel better, but can't believe how much longer it is taking this round than it did for the previous two.  I haven't figured out if trying to do too much (which isn't much at all for me at this point) slows my recovery, or if I will be on this slow track regardless of how much rest I get.[...]

Mar 23

Yesterday I was functional in spurts throughout the day. Last night I crashed pretty hard.  That set me up to expect the same for today.  Unfortunately, I am a mess today.  I'm having to sit home and miss out on some fun.  It's hard.  [...]

Well... we got through another pump week. That is about all I can say about it. The doctors increased the dose another 20% which has really affected Jess. She is a complete wet noodle right now. She doesn't want to eat but knows if she doesn't she'll be in worse shape. Hopefully the weekend goes by fast and she starts to come back to life early next week.[...]

Still feeling pretty gross.  Looking forward to Fri afternoon to unplug the pump.  The crash that comes next is better because I'm less nauseous and at least I can just sleep it away![...]

Mar 17 - Happy St Patrick's Day!

Today everything went smoothly at my "long day" treatment.  I was only there from 9-2:30. We discussed the fact that Dr. Unger doesn't want to do a PET Scan until after the 4th treatment.  Because we have the luxury of being able to feel that the lumps have disappeared, he is confident that the treatment is working.  The rule of thumb is that you complete two treatments after getting back a clean scan which indicates complete remission.  IF my 4 week scan is clear, then we should be done at the 6 week point.  If for any reason it is not, an additional two weeks will be added to my treatment plan.  [...]

Mar 16 - Recipe

Today is my last day of feeling good, so I'm taking advantage!  This morning I'm baking Irish Soda Bread.  I don't brine a brisket and I don't eat boiled cabbage so this is the way that I've found to keep St. Patrick's Day memories of my Nana's house alive.  I HIGHLY recommend this recipe.  It is (as the name indicates) amazingly easy.  The key for me is adding not only regular raisins, but golden raisins too.  That is how Nana used to make it.  I hope everyone has the luck of the Irish tomorrow.[...]

Mar 14

I've been feeling ok this week, but unfortunately Campbell has caught the stomach flu.  Levi and I were up with her Wed. night.  Thursday we spent the day slowly introducing water and bits of food.  We all went to bed feeling like we were over it.  This morning, she drank a bottle of water and it came back up... hopefully it was just too much too fast.  I don't think we're starting over, but only time will tell.[...]
