First, I offer my apologies for not posting yesterday. Scott returned to work, Wes went to school, and it was a busy day at the hospital with John. All of the therapists came by in the morning, which was a little exhausting for John. We were discussing a better way to space out these sessions when the surgical team visited and told us we are likely 24-48 hours within discharge. Yes folks, returning HOME!
So John had an x ray, echocardiogram in the afternoon. John was tired but pushed through some exercises and walked a bit to prove his dedication to his own recovery. Another thing I will mention here is that John hates strong pain meds. We have had multiple discussions about balancing pain meds in a way that doesn’t spike his blood pressure or heart rate. Since moving out of ICU, he has only been on Tylenol and Motrin. His stats have been fine but he’s been digging deep into inner strength to move around. John is happier that way and he’s progressing nicely, so all his caregivers have been supportive.
Scott and Wes arrived in the evening with a huge reward for John: Torchy’s Tacos! Wes brought cards from classmates and teachers. ( Bless you, John Cooper School Family) Child Life managed to bring John a gaming console. And we had ourselves a little taco party! :)
Today, we are looking forward to hearing some news of John going home tonight or tomorrow. If you see me around The Woodlands today in the grocery store like a woman on a mission, yup that’s me fueled on adrenaline and optimism for bringing John home.
Today is Scott’s 50th birthday! Yesterday, he received 50 birthday cards in the mail from his sister Amy. (This caused roaring laughter during the aforementioned Taco Party.) The best present of all, he said, would be for John to come home. Thank you all for your kind words, thoughts, and prayers.
