Friday, Feb. 25

5 weeks ago today! Fridays are a little difficult still. The girls are doing well...our "new normal" as people have coined it for us...true dat! There were some ups and downs emotionally this week. Good news: Becca's tests came back normal; a little anemic still. PT is finding some muscles - so tight - used ultrasound. We continue to pray for her full recovery.[...]

Thanks again for your continued prayers!  I (Stacie) would like to make a request on behalf of the Busch family (they don't know I'm posting this right now)- they need to be blessed with meals! It has been a huge blessing to my (Young/Gilgallon) family to have meals brought to us the past couple of weeks.[...]

TC is a genius! She figured out a way to recline Becca's wheelchair and protect the halo with plastic bags and towels, so yesterday Kellie got her hair washed! We have pictures and a video - lol! The girls have added "washing your hair" to the list of what not to take for granted.[...]

Friday, Feb. 11 BECCA IS HOME!

Becca and TC (and Aunt Pam) drove home from San Diego on Thursday...in secrecy! We snuck over there to welcome them home. Becca's goal was to surprise her teammates at the final league soccer game tonight! The Physical Therapist asked what her goal was when she arrived in San Diego...Becca told her she wanted to be home in just over a week for the game. The therapist chuckled, but Becca worked hard and accomplished her goal! She and Kellie were driven onto the field in golf carts - the team and crowd were in awe! (we will try to get pictures posted soon) What a great night! Three weeks ago tonight, our hearts were so heavy. Tonight there was such JOY! By the way, the PSHS Indians won 6-0, they won 1st place in the league; playoffs start next Thursday![...]

Thursday, Feb. 10

We slept! Oh my goodness, so wonderful. Never take for granted sleeping through the night. The dermatologist confirmed that it was indeed a "drug rash." (He had an immediate medical name for the rash). Gave us a stronger topical cream. We also got some atarax (rx) for the itching yesterday morning (thank you Dr. Ann Zschaechner for that tip). Kellie's rash finally doesn't look as red and irritated today. We see the neurologist today at 11:30 am.[...]

Wednesday, Feb. 9 Kellie Update

Ugh, this week is a blur. We were up again most of the night. How does a kid taking 50 mg of benadryl every 4 hours for 3 days still not sleep? Poor baby! We've tried every topical suggestion and bath soak. Her arms actually hurt when I was patting them dry at 3:00 AM. She finally drifted off around 3:30 am. Her skin is still covered with this rash. I called a local dermatologist this morning; we have an appt. at 2:45. Who cares about health insurance, outside referrals, primary care physician approval?! Somebody please look at her and help us, thanks. The neurologist is seeing her tomorrow. Why tomorrow? Why not today? Eek.[...]

Tuesday, Feb. 8

Apparently my post this morning didn't post, so I'll recap our day. The doctor told us last night that he couldn't do anything for Kellie...in her completely burning, itchy, rash covered state of being. She just cried. He said it was coming from the inside out, hence that's why all topical "stuff" wasn't working. It seems to be a reaction to medicine, most likely the dilantin, her seizure medicine (she was misdiagnosed in the ER on Sunday). We are on prednisone and benedryl. She only slept two hours on Sunday (Monday morning) then last night was especially miserable as the rash had worsened all day Monday. We were up all night...walking outside in the cool night air...sitting in the backyard...we tried several oatmeal baths...creams...baking soda paste...laying washcloths all over her. I sent Jeremy to Walmart in the middle of the night for Tylenol PM. She couldn't sleep til about 4am. We were up at 6:30. Finally in the early afternoon, the burning subsided. In the night, the scripture from Psalm 30:5b came to my mind, "weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning." And sure enough, about 10:30 this morning Rich walked through the door with Starbucks iced chai teas! We are sure looking forward to a good night's sleep tonight![...]

Monday, Feb. 7

Becca is progressing well! The other day TC said she walked with a walker and then with a cane! Go Becca! She does rehab Mon-Sat, with only Sunday to rest. We can't wait to see her walking here in the desert, maybe in a week. Keep praying for that left shoulder! The girls "skyped" yesterday...halo to halo! Kellie is so jealous because TC figured out a way to wash Becca's hair! We may be trippin' down to San Diego for a shampoo party![...]

Friday, Feb. 4

Two weeks ago today, these girls were in serious condition at Desert Hospital. As parents, we were receiving heart wrenching reports from scans and tests. Word went out, literally across the country, and people began to pray. We can't thank you enough for all the love, support, and prayers that you have given to the Busch and Young families! Our God is healing our girls so beautifully.[...]
