Kenna has been admitted to the hospital for the 3rd time in 5 weeks which I’m honestly not even sure what hospital admit number this is since her diagnosis in July. She has been battling pneumonia off and on this last month, and cannot seem to get rid of it.
Tuesday night she thought she had a sinus infection and it turned out to be the pneumonia, again, or still. At this point I’m not convinced it has completely gone away. They also discovered her red blood cells were dangerously low.
Wednesday morning she received a blood transfusion. They also did a CT scan on her to take a look at the fluid build up on her right lung.
Today she had her tri-weekly dialysis. The doctors also made the decision to have the fluid on her lung removed. They believe this fluid is why she continues to battle pneumonia. The hope is that when the fluid is gone the pneumonia will clear out. Unfortunately, who they had on call to perform the thoracentesis (fluid removal from her lung) was not comfortable with performing the procedure. Tomorrow someone else will try again.
She will likely be in the hospital until Monday but I think we would all prefer that, including Kenna. She’s been fighting the pneumonia for long enough. We are hoping this longer hospital stay will rid her of it for once and for all.
The good news is her liver numbers still look pretty good. We hope that once the pneumonia is gone her body can go back to focusing on repairing her liver and kidneys.
Thank you for following her through this journey. I know she appreciates all the kind words.
