Mom has had many highs and lows over these past four weeks, but today, after 30 days in three hospitals, mom walked into the physical therapy gym and rang a bell signifying the end of her in-patient treatment. She received a standing ovation from a room full of therapists and many hugs. After that, we followed mom as she walked out of the rehab building, having put so much work into her recovery to be released two full days before her birthday.
We're so incredibly proud of the work mom has done to get here. She's still not fully aware of all that she's been through but pieces are coming back to her every day.
An in-home nurse spent 2.5 hours at mom's house training us how to administer antibiotics three times per day. It takes about an hour each time and she'll be doing this until July 19. That'll be another day we'll all be celebrating.
Mom's home is set up for recovery including a step stool into her bed and assisting devices in the bathroom. The recovery road is a long one with many hills to climb but they'll be getting easier every day.
So many times today and over the previous week I've heard mom express gratitude for all of the messages left on this site and the many people she heard from directly or through us. As you can imagine, it would have been easy for her to feel lonely, tired and frustrated throughout the past month, but the many people surrounding mom have made those feelings much easier to handle.
We're so proud of you, mom! Let's keep walking through those doors.
