Home again . . . . .

Well, like Kay said, i was released from the hospital Aug 5 and at first, felt very strong.  I had spurts of energy when I felt like I could take on the world, but I started to get a little weaker each day.  I have no appetite and no feeling of thirst so it is very strange to have to force myself to eat and drink.

Finding a comfortable sleeping position was very difficult and I think I drove the whole family crazy the first night. Shaun would get me all situated in the recliner with pillows tucked in, just right.  All of a sudden I would feel claustrophobic and nearly tip everything over to get up again. I finally ended up sleeping about an hour at a time, sitting upright in one chair with my feet on another chair.  By now, my abdominal incision has healed to the point where sleeping on the couch is fairly comfortable.

About a week after I got home, I noticed that I was spending more and more time sleeping and I was losing energy and strength.  Lani and Kaelin tried to get me to eat more and walk around more, but soon I would see black spots when I tried to get up.  So Monday evening (Aug. 15) I paged the surgeon on call to see what I could do to get stronger. About that time, Lani tried to take my pulse-said it was fast and thready so Kaelin called 911. I got an ambulance ride to KU and spent two days getting rehydrated and more CT scans.  I was released yesterday with strict instructions to eat and drink more.  I will see Dr. Kumer next week and hopefully things will be healing more as expected.  Dr. Kumer told me I haven't been typical so far so I shouldn't be surprised if healing isn't typical next week either!😐

Thank you all so much for the love, cards, calls, visits, meals and landscaping work that friends and family have done.  It certainly takes a "family" to get through an ordeal like this.  If I had known what I was getting into, I probably would have resisted surgery.

All for now . . . . .

oh Lori ! I am so sorry you have not been typical in the healing process... You must be sick and tired of feeling sick and tired but it's a beautiful thing that your family and friends are taking such good care of you. I think of you all every day and am hoping next week is better! Much love to you all.
