Giving thanks

Mom is still inpatient, with talk of her going home today. Yesterday, we watched the Macy's parade and the National Dog Show. A musician came by and serenaded her. She ate Thanksgiving dinner early, nibbled on lamb, sweet potato casserole and tomato soup. Oh, she also ate pumpkin pie, but not the crust. Late last night she showered and changed out of the hospital gown into her pajamas. She got a new hat that matched her pjs! The hats are made by volunteers for the patients who lose their hair from treatment. This morning she's having breakfast. The goal is to get her up and walking more. Because of the surgery, it's hard for her to laugh, cough, even blow her nose without her stomach hurting. She's doing great, everyone is so impressed with her progress.

Looks like all senses are being stimulated to aid the healing process-beautiful bedside music to calm the soul; delicious celebratory dining to refill a fighting spirit--all reminders that there is indeed reason to be thankful. So belated Happy Thanksgiving. Hope each new day brings greater strength and ultimate wellness. Love, Gail
