Luke had his end of treatment CT (chest, abdomen and pelvis) and MRI (left foot) on Saturday. I'm very thankful and very relieved to report that they were clear! We typically get results on the next business day, but didn't hear anything until late afternoon on Tuesday. My mind was all over the place coming up with good, bad and neutral reasons for the delay. It turned out all I needed to do to get the phone call to come was to get into the shower that afternoon.
Does anyone have a connection at Pacific Standard Time restaurant? We'll be using a very thoughtful gift card there this Sunday night to celebrate end of chemo, clear scans, college kids being home and all that we're grateful for, and it would be great if Luke could meet the chef and/or get some kind of special treatment. He's been there twice (without us) and loved the concept, the food and the space. I can call myself, but thought I might as well check with you.
If you have been thinking about joining Luke Strikes Back for Team James for Cycle for Survival, now is a great time to join. Cycle for Survival does a donor match before the end of the year, so any donations will be matched once that is open! You can click here to join (password to join is luke). Team James Long Island currently has 36 riders, Cooperstrong for Team James in Seattle has 12, Luke Strikes Back for Team James just 3 so far (4 once Paul signs up) If joining the ride is not your thing, please consider donating and/or sharing. I'll post when the donor match is open, so watch for that if you'd like to maximize your donation. 100% of the money raised is used for research by Memorial Sloan Kettering within 6 months of the event. If Luke relapses, his options will be limited because we used potential relapse drugs for maintenance.
While we celebrate our good news and look forward to Christmas, my heart breaks for so many families who are facing another day, another holiday or maybe their first holiday without their warriors. Others have kids who are very sick right now and may be running out of options. Please hold them all close to your hearts this season. They all deserved better options and more time with their families.
Thank you all again for everything.
