The first donor was not passed by the medical team

So, the first person to got the full testing done was unfortunately not suitable for liver donation to me. That is all I know: that person's medical results are of course none of my business, so I was just told that the medical team did not think it wise to proceed. If you are reading this message: I cannot begin to thank you for what you offered to do, and I regret that I will not be carrying a piece of you around in me for ever more. You must be a very good person indeed to have done this, and it would have been an honor.

The hospital will now contact other people on the list to bring them in for the MRI/heart/etc tests. So, if you have friends who offered or who ask you about progress, please let them know that they are not forgotten, and that the hospital will be in touch as and when they are ready to move to the in-house testing.

Thank you all for your continuing support, which is certainly felt and is hugely appreciated by me and Tanya. I don't know where we would be without you, but I do know it would not be a place which felt anywhere near as hopeful as it does right now.

For anyone who asks how they can help, this form is still the first thing to fill out: https://www.montefiore.org/live-donor-form

Hi Paul, we met last spring in Wallingford at the American Liver Foundation’s Liver Transplant Re-Birthday Party . I'm so glad to hear you are being proactive with finding a donor. What hospital are you affiliated with?

Hi Lynda, good to "see" you again! I am working toward a living donor, based on lower MELD score but other poor prognostic indicators. It's going very well, as you can see we have set up this site to let people know what is going on, and to ask those who might be at such a point in their life where they are able, if they would consider donating. I'm going to a dinner in Hartford CT next week for a pre-transplant Ask the Experts session. I guess you don't attend these, because you already know the info!? To answer your question, I am with Montefiore in NYC. We are working on living donors as I mentioned, and here is the web form they are using to co-ordinate that: https://www.montefiore.org/live-donor-form Hope to see you again soon! Paul.
