Today was a great day! Perry was awake, alert & responding to communications with nods, hand gestures, blinks & winks. He was up for a photoshoot to give all of his supporters a big thumbs up & Michael & Ryan even got to play a game of charades with him to find out that he wanted to take a 20 minute nap (on the nosey!).
Originally, we were hopeful that he would be able to be taken off the vent today, however the surgeon decided it would be best to hold off until his breathing becomes stronger & deeper. Another part of this decision was that Perry has not received nourishment since Sunday, & the surgeon wants to make sure that Perry has the fuel/energy to begin taking those stronger/deeper breaths & to prevent complications. Perry was disappointed as he wants to be able to talk to us, but as always he’s a trooper & will do what has to be done.
The surgeon passed a tube into his stomach to begin nourishment & is now resting and with with heavy sedation in hopes for another go at it tomorrow.
