August 7th, 2015 - Slow and Steady

The neurology team hooked him up for the 24 hour video surveillance EEG last night and preliminary report says there was some seizure activity around 1 AM, but we have not received the full report yet. They did another CT scan and results were that same as the first with no signs of stroke or irregularities. He will continue to be sedated through the night under the neurology team's recommendation and to let his body recoup without any other added stressors. He will have a repeat CT of the brain in ~48 hours.

His heart and lungs are still doing well and liver has been showing signs of improvement through his blood work and his eyes which are less yellow than yesterday. They increased his dialysis level from 50 to 100 as he handled the lowest level well overnight and the plan is to gradually increase based on how his body handles things. They also lowered his oxygen concentration to 28% (normal room air concentration is 21%) which means his lungs are doing well. His chest tubes have had minimal bloody drainage. He looks a bit better and is less swollen today, but is still having some spastic mouth/jaw movements (later in the day these seemed to have lessened in intensity). It's going to be a slower process.

Misty has been stimulating his senses.  For touch, she brought in a green leaf and rubbed the shiny, smooth side of the leaf on his palm and then the rougher veiny side for a texture variance.  For hearing, he is listening to music on Misty's phone which she has placed on his chest to feel the beat/vibration of the music.  Misty is planning to purchase a sample of Georgio perfume as it was one of Doreen's (his mother) favorites and will bring in a sample of dry Dunkin' Donuts coffee to stimulate his sense of smell. Will have to wait to stimulate the sense of taste but for sure it won't be broccoli (they did start his first feeding tube since the his first post-transplant surgery around 7 PM).

Misty and Perry were also visited today by a Healing Services RN at Perry's bedside for a Healing Touch & Reiki. During the session, the human body's 7 centers of spiritual power, also known as chakras, are focused on. Misty learned the color green represents the chakra for the heart, so Perry was asked to focus on things that are green by the Healing Services RN. Can you think of anything green that Perry could be focusing on? Hint: The Physical & Occupational Therapists were told by Misty to help him improve his golf swing. Answer: Golf course.

We know for certain the Green would NOT be Green beans, but the mention of such would bring a reaction! The world is praying for our man of STEEL Perry and His Misty. Fine job dear Grandsons and fantastic support group.
