"FAST FORWARD" Post for TODAY November 13, 2015

Quick FAST FORWARD for TODAY:  Perry had been experiencing an increase in thicker & pale yellow cream oral & trach secretions for several days, extreme tiredness sleeping nearly around the clock, & not being able to tolerate trach cappings. Yesterday he had an increased heart rate to highest of 132/min in AM, with continued low blood pressures throughout the day & night, temperature spikes to 101.8, & decrease in urine output.  Cultures were obtained including: 4 sets of blood cultures, suctioned trach respiratory secretion cultures, & stool culture.  Dialysis was not done yesterday due to hypotension etc.  He was started on Doxcycline & Zosyn antibiotics & late evening was given Albumin & started on an IV drip of Neosynephrine to increase his blood pressure & hopefully increase urine output.  He has been able to slightly nod to acknowledge that he is understanding what is happening & mouths only a few words on occasion using mostly hand signals to communicate his needs to me or his nurse.  He is on 1:1 nursing care this shift & I hope that will be able to continue for at least tonight & tomorrow.

He was previously scheduled for a bronchoscopy & trach change for today at 2p which is still planned.  Currently his central access lines for dialysis, medications & blood draws is being removed & a temporary access is being inserted.  During the bronchoscopy, excess mucus & mucus plugs will be able to be removed with lavage, secretion & tissue samples taken, the surgical anastomosis sites for the lungs assessed, & determination of whether rejection is occurring.  Another diagnostic test is also going to be performed to check for a lung infection known as Urea Plasma PCR which causes ammonia levels to be elevated.  Cleveland Clinic does not perform this diagnostic so vials were requested from Mayo Laboratories & received earlier this week.

I apologize to all for not being able to keep you updated in a timely manner as I have been kept very busy caring & comforting Perry not to mention having experienced a few technology glitches & corrections.

Please continue prayers that the source of infection is identified & properly treated, for additional healing & recovery without further complications. We keep you all in our prayers too especially as we enter into Thanksgiving.  May we all learn to accept & be thankful for all goodness & adversities in this life as they are blessings.  And to give Him praise & thanksgiving for all that we have.  If you’re not familiar with the song “Blessings” by Laura Story please take a moment to listen - it helps!!!!

“We pray for blessings, we pray for peace

Comfort for family, protection while we sleep

We pray for healing, for prosperity

We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering

All the while You hear each spoken need

Yet love us way too much to give us lesser things

'Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops

What if Your healing comes through tears?

What if a thousand sleepless nights

Are what it takes to know You're near?

What if trials of this life

Are Your mercies in disguise?

We pray for wisdom, Your voice to hear

We cry in anger when we cannot feel You near

We doubt Your goodness, we doubt Your love

As if every promise from Your Word is not enough

And all the while You hear each desperate plea

And long that we'd have faith to believe

'Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops

What if Your healing comes through tears?

And what if a thousand sleepless nights

Are what it takes to know You're near?

And what if trials of this life

Are Your mercies in disguise?

When friends betray us, when darkness seems to win

We know that pain reminds this heart

That this is not, this is not our home

It's not our home

'Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops

What if Your healing comes through tears?

And what if a thousand sleepless nights

Are what it takes to know You're near?

What if my greatest disappointments

Or the aching of this life

Is the revealing of a greater thirst

This world can't satisfy?

And what if trials of this life

The rain, the storms, the hardest nights

Are Your mercies in disguise?”

So sorry for the set backs. Praying that the experts will figure this all out SOON and get Perry back on the right track to recovery. We all need to count our blessings daily and I actually do. I have a morning thanksgiving prayer before my feet in the carpet each morning. E-Hugs (this is a really tight one!) and much prayer!!!! Love, Joni & Ken
