Today Mark started Physical Therapy (PT). It's hard to believe that three weeks ago we weren't sure how this story was going to end. Mark's brother and I started down this road with Mark. We were quickly joined by our children & Mark's sister flew home from Florida. The surgery & illness were brutal on Mark's body. We waited, hoping that Mark's kidneys would start to function again and they started working. Then he developed an infection & the doctors couldn't figure out where it was. They pumped him full of antibiotics and he pulled through that. A little over a week ago he started rehab at the hospital - he could barely walk with a walker; he couldn't get in & out of bed without assistance and sitting in a chair for long periods of time was difficult. Today he is zooming through the house with his walker, trying a couple steps at a time, talking less pain killers and he seems to have a little more energy. He has his work cut out for him - he has PT homework. They are working on strengthening his core starting with breathing exercises & some leg exercises. This week he peddled the bike for 5 minutes & worked his arms for 3 minutes. Next week we know he will be further than this week and the week after that who knows?! We just know that we will be grateful for the accomplishments - no matter how small. Thank you so much for following his journey and for your prayers and good vibes!
