Finding a rhythm

Hi all,

I haven’t written for a while because I don’t feel like I’ve had a lot of milestones to tell you about, but I thought I’d just give a bit of an update.

I do want to say THANK YOU so much for praying about my neck and head pain and migraines. Praise the Lord I have not had any since the last time I updated! I have had occasional mild neck pain, but nothing like I was having. I am very thankful to wake up in the morning and not have excruciating neck pain that forces me to get up! I still wake up cautiously wondering if my neck will be painful, but so far it hasn’t!

My sleeping is going a lot better. I still wake up multiple times a night but I am able to get back to sleep fairly easily. Last night though I woke up almost every hour, which was frustrating. But I have had a few good sleeps where I only briefly woke up once or twice, so there is hope my sleeping will eventually go back to normal.

Energy-wise I am probably around 85% of normal. I still take naps about every other day. I got a little eager the past two weeks because I was having more energy so I dove into a lot of social and volunteering things. But I quickly got exhausted and remembered that even before my brain surgery I was trying to cut back on how busy I was. Having back-to-back plans when I am well exhausts me, let alone 6 weeks post brain surgery. So this week I made a commitment that I would only have one outing a day, and that has been much better. I have learned to break up the house chores over multiple days, which helps too! So when people ask me if I’m going stir crazy or bored I say no; it’s quite the opposite really.

I’ve been working on getting my fitness up the past two weeks with walking and exercise videos. I’m gradually improving which is nice. Also, I had a wonderful birthday week a couple weeks ago! Thank you for your kind birthday wishes! The selfie of S and Me are from out hike on my birthday (he kindly took the morning off work).

In April I plan to do some online training modules for work that I will get paid for. I am not allowed to go back to work until May 8th (after I see Dr. Abrams on the 7th) and will work 8-hour shifts (instead of 12) for the first 2.5 weeks – doctor’s orders. I am also going to look into studying for my Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) exam. Every weekend in April is booked for me too. We are looking forward to having Stephen’s brother Philip visit us for a few days, then I am going to a Women’s Training Network in Portland (part of The Gospel Coalition) with a friend from church, then it’s Easter weekend, then we are having a ladies’ retreat with our church. And that’s April done.

Stephen’s work/research is going well too! He is also a wonderful help around the home too when I’m too tired. We also have hardly had to cook because we still have freezer meals that family and friends made us! My wall of encouragement is still up and I love looking at it (see attached pictures). And Spring is coming here, which is exciting!  There are so many daffodils around our new neighborhood :)

Thank you for your continued prayers. We feel them and so appreciate them!

I’m thankful for the lessening of migraines and neck pain. Chronic pain is very difficult and makes it hard to be positive. I hope you are regaining your energy as well so you will be up to the extra study time and possibly returning to work next week. I hope you don’t overdo things as I know your tendencies to say yes to many things. Be careful in committing to new or adjusted schedule. Your Expectations For yourself are pretty demanding. Listen to your surgeon. Sending our love and prayers. ❤️💚🦷💛🧡 Grandma B
