Today marks the anniversary of our journey together. Neither one of us believed it would last and Schmoul was afraid we were going to ruin our friendship. In fact, because we had a friendship before we started our path as a couple, was what helped to see us through all our trials and tribulations. We have been each other's best friend through it all.
Schmoul continues to struggle with his GVHD. He has been up and down on the prednisone. His skin won't stop flaking but at least it is not weeping like before. He is back up on 60 mg of the steroid per day which is havoc on his body but seems to slow the skin flaking. He has been struggling with his white blood cell count again and has had to have extra shots to boost his white blood cells. His dry eyes and mouth continue and he has developed a chronic cough. We finally see a pulmonary specialist tomorrow. They have ruled out every form of bacteria, virus, and fungus from causing the cough. So it is either his yearly allergy response or the beginning of GVHD in his lungs. Let's pray for the former rather than the latter.
We continue to practice gratitude every day and night for the small things and people in our lives. We continue to have faith that Howard will bring us both through this to a place where life is not focused on Schmoul's illness and we can get out and enjoy the world.
