Gonna make us stronger

Friday afternoon we found out Kim has breast cancer. Originally diagnosed as Invasive Ductile Carcinoma it has now been changed to Invasive Lobular Carcinoma.

Through support of family and friends, Kim is doing fantastic. She inspires me with her strength.

Today we had our first meeting with the surgical oncologist.  Our niece Amanda Franks and friend Amber Reilly accompanied Kim and I. They were fantastic with support and helping us ask good questions.

So far we have this timeline...

1. Lab work done today (5/15/18)
-genetic testing (5-10 days for results)

-if cancer is genetic then mastectomy is a possible choice

-1% chance of it being genetic

2. MRI (in GR) on 5/23
-to get a clearer picture of everything

-cancer, rest of breasts, lymph nodes

3. Dye lymph nodes (day before surgery)

4. Lumpectomy surgery (penciled in for 2 weeks from initial meeting)

5. Oncotype test results (3-4 weeks after lumpectomy)
-if test comes back “low” then just hormone blocker with no chemo

-if test comes back “high” then hormone blocker and chemo

That’s what we know so far.
