Chemo 42 done. What's happening now? A LOT! John has 2 blood clots in his leg and cannot be put back on blood thinners therefore an IVC (Inferior Vena Cava) Filter will be placed tomorrow at Monmouth Medical Center, Lakewood Campus. The filter will prevent the clots from traveling to his lungs or heart. Those of you following along for the past 5 1/2 years may remember that he fought with one of those filters in the past. We finally found an interventional radiologist at The University of Pennsylvania to remove it after a failed attempt at Monmouth Medical. We are left with no other option but to try a filter again and hope for a different outcome.
John's latest MRI, on April 4, showed 2 more brain tumors and cancer in the leptomeningeal fluid (cerebral spinal fluid). After meeting with Dr. Cohen and Dr. Weiss, neuro-radiologist, it is determined that whole brain radiology is necessary and will be scheduled quickly. This will not cure the situation but give quality of life. Dr. Cohen also wants to schedule a spinal tap to examine the cancer cells. Chemo schedules and protocols will be addressed as time progresses.
As Dr. Weiss said, John has lived well beyond his prognosis and there is NO DATA on outcome of any of this.
John will reprise his role as "Andrew the Apostle" in the Living Last Supper at Nativity during Holy Week on April 10, 11, and 12 at 7:30pm.
We will continue fighting and we most certainly will continue to pray. XO
