Dear friends of JohnD, I have to admit that these posts are getting harder to write. Today we went to Monmouth Medical for a lumbar puncture to try to collect cells so Dr. Cohen could see if there was a different type of cancer present and treat it accordingly. The procedure was aborted because the interventional radiologist felt it was too risky due to the location of brain tumors in relation to the spine. We then went on to the radiation department to begin the 10 round series of daily treatments to try and decrease the pain and effects from the brain tumors which are increasing due to cancer in meningeal fluid. Not a pleasant experience after radiation, to say the least. Holding out hope that it will have a more positive effect as time goes by.[...]
Chemo 42 done. What's happening now? A LOT! John has 2 blood clots in his leg and cannot be put back on blood thinners therefore an IVC (Inferior Vena Cava) Filter will be placed tomorrow at Monmouth Medical Center, Lakewood Campus. The filter will prevent the clots from traveling to his lungs or heart. Those of you following along for the past 5 1/2 years may remember that he fought with one of those filters in the past. We finally found an interventional radiologist at The University of Pennsylvania to remove it after a failed attempt at Monmouth Medical. We are left with no other option but to try a filter again and hope for a different outcome. [...]
