Chemotherapy has started!

hello friends....the last 3 days have been a whirlwind.  Monday brought the installation of my port, through which chemotherapy and other iv fluids can be delivered, and from which blood can be drawn.  Saves one's veins!  Also went to Waldo County General Hospital Monday afternoon for a CAT scan.  Yesterday spent all day at Waldo CGH having bone scans, MRIs, echocardiogram, and an unexpected procedure from the radiologist there who placed 2 metal pins that are located where the cancer is, so it can always be located, even if the chemo shrinks one or both to nothingness.  She's our neighbor, and said she had time to do it yesterday, so saved an extra hospital visit to have that done within the next few days.  very nice, but not very comfortable.  Tests did not show other cancer in unexpected places, which is really, really good news to hear.

Today spent all day at PenBay Medical Center receiving chemotherapy and it went very well.  no side effects or reactions thus far, a good sign.  it took so long because there are 4 drugs that have to be given in sequence in case there's a reaction to one.  Plus anti-nausea infusions in between.  I feel fine but a bit tired, so will wrap this up.  Next chemo in 3 weeks, for a total of 6 sessions each 3 weeks apart.  I am pleased that the treatment has begun.

Glad your first treatment is finished and that you're doing well. Are you talking about Dr. Webb? If so, she's great, isn't she? She is very caring and takes plenty of time to walk you through what needs to be done. And it's super good news that the cancer wasn't found anywhere else! YEAH!

Wow! That's a lot, Sue. No wonder you're tired. One treatment down, only five to go. And good news re: no other cancer locations! Sounds like you have a super team taking care of you. I hope you have a good book, watch some great movies, and get lots of rest.

Hi Sue, How is everything going ? Just want you to know that good examinations do happen. Today I had a 6 month checkup of my bladder and there is no sign of cancer, I am going on 83 in January and I had my first bout with bladder cancer when I was 67. So if you keep after it good things can happen. We wish you well and think of you all the time. Love, Uncle Keith
