Beauty and the Beast

It has taken me a bit to find my words and gather my thoughts. That’s the funny thing about cancer, it forever brings you on a rollercoaster ride. It brings you up and down, sometimes leaving you speechless, other times just numb. It makes you appreciate so much more and yet other times it crushes you.[...]

It has been a whirlwind of a year and I have not written in a while. On this Thanksgiving day, there is so much to be Thankful for. A year ago we got the diagnosis. A year ago, mom was told 6 months. Today 12 months later mom is living her life. It’s not always easy, and there are good days and bad, but how thankful we are to have this day together.          I have never been a fan of Thanksgiving, over eating and turkey just are not my gig. But I am a fan of being Thankful. This year there is so much to be thankful for. Take the time to tell everyone you love how thankful you are. Enjoy today and every day. I am thankful for my family, my friends, and all the moments I get with mom. From our crazy outings, to our phone calls, to painting the house and picking peaches. I am thankful for it all. Never take a single day for granted, and remember to share the love and thankfulness. In this world we live in we all could be a bit more humble and thankful. I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving. Thank you all for the continuous love. I am most thankful for each and every one of you. Happy Thanksgiving! [...]

Happy Mothers Day

First  and foremost, Happy Mothers Day to all the amazing women in my life!

Secondly, let’s talk about my mom (ok I may be biased) she is my light, my love, and my strength. She has taught me to be a fighter. And to do so with courage and strength. Together, we have learned the power of love and how to except love from even complete strangers. I am proud of my mom. I wouldn’t be here without her. She has made me the brave strong woman I am.[...]

Smiling faces

Mom came home from Maine Med on Tuesday. It was a long ride after a long night and she was more than ready to get into her bed.  One could say she practically ran into the house...Ok could have been the fact she was feeling nauseous that gave her the extra pep in her step... Regardless, she was in bed within minutes. [...]

The best is yet to come

Just giving you all an update. Mom is out of surgery and doing well! She will be spending the night and I will be bringing her home tomorrow. Thank you all for the positive vibes and love! I will keep all her supporters in the loop as she continues to progress. The worst is behind her. The best is yet to come! Xo[...]

Goodbye chemo hello spring!

Today marks a great day! Mom finished her final round of chemo yesterday, and we couldn’t have done it without the love and support of all our friends and family. What does the future hold? Going forward mom will continue to have treatments every 3 weeks in the form of infusions. These are similar to chemo but without the nasty make you sick drugs. Additionally, we will be heading to Portland for a mastectomy on the 7th. [...]

The fighter

It has been over a month since I have written, but I guess no news is good news. Mom has finished round 4 of chemo and she has done so with elegance and grace. Her sickness has  been kept at bay and she is feeling quite well. It has been an adjustment to her in so many ways. She finds herself with free time, and is still learning the art of relaxing. I guess when you have worked your whole life, free time is a strange thing. She also has had to get use to understanding that her body is tired, and that is normal. It’s no easy task fighting off the evil “c” word.      [...]

How’s the weather

Tuesday mom had round two of Chemo. The day started out with a prediction of snowpocalypse. Over a foot they said.... I began to wonder after a whooping 3 inches,  if the over zealous prediction of snow was a sign. Perhaps round two for mom will be highly over anticipated and way over predicted. I am happy to announce that moms round two of chemo was in fact overly forecasted. She is feeling great! [...]

More than funfetti cake

This week has been a great week! Mom has been feeling hungry and energized with limited pain. Several days ago she asked when she might be able to drive again. Sandy and I explained to her that was probably not the best option, but if she wanted to go somewhere just ask. She quickly responded, “I would like to go to the grocery store”.   Wow she must really be feeling great as that was never one of her favorite stops. The next day I took her to the grocery store. She wanted to push the cart and was excited to be doing something for herself. It quickly became obvious why driving is not in the immediate future. Before even getting out of the fresh produce isle, mom successfully ran her cart into three different display racks. Luckily, I prevented the cart from hitting too hard and the melons from rolling on the floor. That day we had a successful trip, and she was more than willing to relinquish her cart duty, in order to free up her hands for grabbing her favorite snacks. She was excited about her big outing and her sense of independence once again.[...]
