Merry Christmas! All is well.....

Hi Everyone - Welcome to our new website for posting updates on Aoife & Tarynn's health.  We are all doing GREAT!  2017 was a fantastic year for our family.  Aoife and Tarynn both had cardiology visits in the late summer and fall.  Tarynn's visit was first and we have been expecting to hear that she is in need of an intervention. (Tarynn had a cath in August 2016, and at that time we were told that she would likely need to have her artificial artery replaced by open heart surgery in a year or so.) . Well, Tarynn's echo looked stable with no increase in pressures, so we were given a year until she needs to be seen again.  Hooray!!!!!  This was far better news that what we anticipated, and we are so happy to have another year (or more) for Tarynn to grow before the possibility of surgery.

Aoife's cardiology visit was later in the fall, and she received excellent news as well.  Aoife's cardiologist told us that he was paying her artificial artery the "highest compliment that he had ever paid to a conduit".  Aoife is 6 years post-op and her conduit is still looking great.  Aoife was given a one year pass until her next cardiology appointment as well.  Go Aoife!!!!

In other news, since everyone was healthy, we took an amazing trip over the summer.  We flew out west and spent three weeks visiting National Parks.  We rode mules at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, heard a Native American flute being played on top of a mountain in Sedona, hiked in a river at Zion, walked through the Hoodoos at Bryce Canyon, saw numerous animals (including a bear, moose, elk, bison, and rattlesnakes) at Grand Teton & Yellowstone, and then went to Cheyenne Frontier Days and saw a real rodeo!  The rodeo was Aoife's favorite part of the trip.  We finished the vacation visiting with friends and family in New Mexico.  It was truly amazing to experience so many beautiful parts of the country and we are grateful that everyone was healthy and able to enjoy these adventures.

In addition to our family trip, Aoife and Tarynn were both able to attend heart camp this summer.  Aoife spent two weeks in the Berkshires at a heart camp and made friends from all around the East Coast.  She absolutely loves camp, and had the best time ever.  Aoife and Tarynn also got to attend heart camp in RI in August.  This was Tarynn's first year attending, and she had so much fun!!  The girls can't wait to go back to camp again next year and we feel very fortunate that they have been able to have these opportunities to build friendships with other children who have health issues similar to their own.

In the fall, all three girls started new schools.  Aemilia is now a freshman in high school, Aoife is in grade 6, and Tarynn is in grade 3.  Previously, the girls were all in Catholic school together.  Now, Aemilia is in Catholic high school, while Aoife and Tarynn are attending public schools.  Although we miss many of our Catholic school friends and teachers, this has been a positive change for our family.  The girls are all very happy in their new schools.  They are all in Girl Scouts and are playing tennis.  Aemilia & Tarynn are playing piano, and Aoife has started playing clarinet.  We have also become involved in a new parish and are so happy with the youth choir and the other activities in which the girls are participating in at church.

Brian and I are also doing great.  When the girls are all healthy and happy, it is easier for us to relax and enjoy life as well.  We hope you have all been enjoying the holidays.  We spent Christmas with the Schattle family and the girls had lots of fun playing with their cousins.
