Dear Super Fans,

As they say in the news business, we are currently in a slow news cycle. For the next few weeks I will be healing and recovering  from chemo. I am doing a little better each day, and I'm feeling well. My body needs a lot of sleep right now, and I am taking at least two naps per day.  My appetite has largely returned, and I'm only 1.5 pounds below my weight when I started chemo.[...]

Chemo Day Seven: Freedom!

Dear Super Fans,

Earlier this afternoon I completed the chemotherapy. While I am feeling tired today, I could not be happier!  Though I still have many weeks to go in order to rebuild my immune system, today marks a big milestone on my road to recovery. I could not have done this without all of you, and for that I am eternally grateful. [...]

Chemo Day 6.5: The homestretch

Dear Super Fans,

Some of you may be familiar with an old-fashioned song with the lyrics, "I get no kick from Champaign." Well over the last week we might be forgiven for thinking that cladribine doesn't have much of a kick either. However today in the homestretch, I am starting to feel it. Mind you, these are still very mild symptoms and I'm doing just fine. But today I have had some lightheadedness, dizziness, and a bit of nausea.  I've been drinking ginger ale, and that settled my stomach. I've taken some catnaps during the day. So overall it's OK. Tomorrow afternoon they will disconnect me from the chemo, so I have my eyes on the prize.[...]

Chemo Day Four: Inspired by Children

Dear Super Fans,

It has been another good day on chemotherapy. I am now at the point where the medication is building up in my system.  Mild itching is my only side effect at this point, and that is remarkable compared to what many people have suffered. I am very fortunate. Overall I feel just fine, if a bit tired. And I remain in great spirits.[...]

Chemo Day Three: A Good Day

Dear Super Fans,

I am still feeling just fine on the chemo. Today I did some work remotely, and then went into the office in the afternoon for a couple of hours to finish up a few administrative tasks. It was great to visit with everyone at the at the office. [...]

Chemo: Day 2

Dear Super Fans,

I have had a very good day. After a good night of sleep, and a normal breakfast,  I am working remotely from home. So far, I am tolerating the chemo very well, and have no side effects at this point. The nurses tell me that I may start to experience something within a few days.  While I am ready for just about anything, I will remember Grandma Rose's advice, and will not borrow worry. [...]

Chemo Begins!

Dear Super Fans,

At 1:35 today my chemo therapy nurse Heidi turned on the chemo pump. The battle against the cancer has been joined!  I'm in great spirits, and feeling just fine. Thank you for all your messages and prayers today, and over the past few weeks.  Your support will help me win this battle. [...]
