Children
Last week was amazing! For the last three months, every day, we have been gaining the trust of the kids in the town we live in. At first the kids would star, some would yell "hey Joe", and some would even flip us off. As time went on we began to gain enough trust to give the kids high fives and they loved it. At first the kids would be a bit hesitant, but all we had to do was put up our hand and look at them and their faces would light up as they gave us high fives. In a couple of weeks we couldn't stop the high fives, the kids would mob use in the street as we tried to walk by.
I'll never forget when my favorite little boy saw Brandon and me walking towards him. He jumped up in excitement and ran towards me as fast as he could. I knelt down expecting a high five and he ran right by my hand and gave me the biggest hug a 40 pound boy can. The Lord softened my heart this day through the pure heart of a child. After some prayer the Lord told me it was time to start a children's ministry on Saturday morning. So in faith, we went through town and told every child we saw that we were giving lugow, which is a Filipino treat, and to come by the school. We started making the lugow in faith that kids would show and they did! By the time they all showed up there was over 20 kids.
When we saw the turn out we said how we are going to get plates to feed all these kids. As soon as that was said, Japeth showed up with plates from his mom and Pastor Jerome brought his personal plates. It was amazing, after counting the kids, we had exactly the amount of plates that we had kids. We fed them while they were sitting and learning praise songs from Joel and I walked over and noticed none of them were eating.
They wouldn't, or couldn't eat it without spoons. I doubted right away and said "what now Lord?" Again, as soon as I said that Japeth jumps up, runs up a tree and starts pulling a certain palm leaf that is used for a spoon! Once again God showed that this was His ministry and He would take care of it. The kids saw a skit that day of David and Goliath. At the end we tested them, asking where did David get his strength? They all yelled "from God!" Please stay in prayer as the Lord begins to touch the children of Samar.... Matthew 18:5 "Whoever receives one little child like this in my name, receives Me.”
God Bless,
