Garrett Park Blagg Memorial Service
Garrett Park Blagg, 41, of Colorado, died Friday, December 23, 2016 from complications resulting from Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenia and Thrombosis (HIT). He was born April 21, 1975 in Pueblo, CO, the first of two sons of Terry and Jonnelle (Schrier) Blagg. He attended Jefferson County schools, in Lakewood and graduated from Bear Creek High School in 1994. Garrett received his first pair of hockey skates when he was just five years old and he instantly found his love for the ice. He set his sights high and was determined to play the sport- even if it meant that his feet, especially his toenails, would take a beating. He eventually earned a position on Team Colorado and loved reminiscing about the years he spent with the team and the traveling they did to compete in various tournaments throughout the nation. He often told stories of their rigorous practice schedule and the support he received from his mom, who was not only his chauffer, but his #1 fan who never missed a game and could always be heard cheering from the stands. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Bethel University in St. Paul, MN where he played men’s hockey.
Garrett will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor, his love for sports and ice cream with gummy bears, and his gentle nature. Anyone who knew Garrett could see how passionate he was about his two daughters. He proudly displayed their pictures and drawings around his office and home, and he looked forward to the opportunity to take the girls to work with him so that he could introduce them to his peers. He enjoyed teaching them how to ice skate and skate board and was known to show up to work with pink, purple and blue finger nails from the manicure he had received from them. He hadn’t quite mastered any girly hair-do’s but was not opposed to allowing the girls to attempt hair-do’s on him. Garrett loved all things Colorado and held a special fondness for the cabin his parents own outside of Blackhawk.
Garrett is survived by his two daughters, Rylee and Regan Blagg of Centennial; his mother and stepfather, Jonnelle and Alan Leimbach of Lakewood; his father and step-mother, Terry and Maria Blagg of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and his brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Annie Blagg and their two children, Gabriel and Kaitlyn Blagg of Centennial. He also leaves his step-sister Melody Pearson and her two children, William and Cadence Pearson of Silver Springs, MD; and his step-sister and brother-in-law Marci and Brian Tripp and their two sons, Levi and Jonah Tripp of Lakewood. He is also survived by his maternal uncles and aunts, Steve and Diana Schrier of Omaha, NE; and Suzanne and Ram Ramanujam of Cleveland, OH; as well as his paternal uncle and aunt, Roger and Charla Wake of Seattle, WA and several beloved cousins.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 4th, 2017, at 11:00am, in the Iliff Chapel at the Iliff School of Theology, with a reception to follow in the Sié Center, on the DU campus.

To all of Garrett's family, I just heard of Garrett's passing and was saddened to see the struggles he faced in your journal entries. I have so many fond memories of Garrett in high school! He got me hooked on hockey and I loved visiting the ducks in his backyard. He was such a good friend to me and always made me laugh! I loved his sense of humor. It sounds like he was a great father and made wonderful memories with his daughters. So sorry for your loss! He was way too young to have to go through something like that. I will pray for all of you and his daughters to still find strength in God. Sarah Johnson Miller
