Peter lives on in the hearts
And all the young minds
Of those he touched and inspired.
His is an enduring, living legacy
Alive in classrooms, communities and homes
Wherever Club Kids thrive.
A testament to his vision and tireless determination to bring about meaningful change
In the lives of the underserved.
And even in the pain of illness and ultimate death
Peter instructed us all
In lessons on resilience, perseverance and grace
Which he so bravely embodied
Till his last breath.

Our heartfelt condolences to the Fortenbaugh family,
Leah Zaffaroni and Family

To Betty and Family- I am so sorry to hear of Peter's passing. Please accept my sincerest condolences. Peter was a wonderful person and I very much enjoyed working with both of you. There is a saying in Judaism that is appropriate to Peter: May his memory be for a blessing.

Dear friends and family to Peter,

I am deeply sorry for the loss of an amazing, caring and passionate individual in all our lives. Peter was clear on his mission to better the lives of everyone around him, especially the youth who needed it most. His dedication and commitment will be forever remembered through the legacy he leaves behind. I am honored to have known and briefly worked along side him.

May the Fortenbaughs and all of the BGCP family find peace and tranquility as we all mourn the loss of a real-life superhero.

With love,
Mandy Lipp (Boys & Girls Clubs of North San Mateo County), Bruce Wright (Board Chair), and all Board Members and Staff.

Peter,
I joined your leadership team and worked hard to advance your vision from 2013-2016. I learned so much from you about leadership, management, casting vision, and forging inclusive communities across diverse stakeholder groups. Wasn't always easy, but I emerged a better leader and today routinely draw from the many lessons learned by your side. You modeled principled, compassionate leadership and ethical decision making to those of us who huddled with you to execute our great mission. We carry your torch forward.
Condolences to the Fortenbaughs and all of the BGCP family,
Jeff Feinman

Dear Betty, Sam, Henry and Pippa - We are so sorry for your loss. Peter was a kind, giving and inspiring person and his life was a gift to all that met him. This makes his passing all the more painful to you. I hope that the thought that he is now in a better place after a difficult battle with cancer will be a consolation. Our prayers are with you.

As I read these incredible heartfelt messages, I think about all of the lives Peter impacted, particularly those who did not know what he accomplished, as he never asked for special recognition. I think back to the day he came to my office when I was principal at Hoover in Redwood City and he shared that BGCP would be able to fully fund the extended day program for 300 K-8 Hoover students. This was life-changing for so many Hoover families, often struggling to make basic ends meet, and now they had access to a high quality extended day program at no cost. Peter never asked for any acknowledgment - this is just what he did - magically creating more opportunities for all to access. I am grateful I had the opportunity to thank him when he received the PTA Outstanding Administrator Award in February. He was a true life-changer and I will always remember his selfless support. commitment and compassion. Amanda Rothengast

Peter was an inspiration to those of us that had to honor to meet him. He was kind, and cared for all children that crossed The Forest of the BGCP. He welcomed everyone and helped staff, students, and their parents feel they where is a place where everyone belong. His presence was felt at every event; and now, he will be missed but never forgotten. My deepest sympathy. - Cecilia Marquez

I will miss those late nights when Peter would come knocking on my door or window of my office with his latest inspired idea. I feel so honored to have been a thought partner for our EPAA students and families. Peter's positive energy, vision, and overall commitment to the dreams and aspirations of our students and families were and continue to be contagious. I can see that sparkle in his eye, hosting Youth of the Year, getting excited about a new BGCP team member I just "had to meet", and the millions of other ways he was going to expand opportunities for everyone in his scope. What an incredible honor to have shared those moments. I am certain that we will continue to work with relentless commitment and passion in his honor. We will miss you, Peter. Thank you for fueling so many of us to do better. Thank you, Betty, Henry, Sam, and Pippa for sharing so much of Peter's heart and time with so many others.
Rest in Power,
Amika M. Guillalume, Proud Principal of East Palo Alto Academy
