My LAST DAY of radiation!!
Today was my last day of radiation!! With a slight hiccup around week 4/5. I’m actually off by 1 extra day. During week 4 my doctor suspected I had COVID due to vomiting the night before (ah, I’m taking chemo!?), my loss of taste ( hello, radiation and chemo together!) an “elevated” temperature (I usually run 1 full degree lower 97.Something?, but my temp was actually normal, at 98.6. They called that elevated! So I was asked to get a covid test (it was negative, no surprise there!). Just a wonderful waste of my time, but I actually missed a day of radiation through all that rigamarole!
But today was very emotional for me. It’s been 6 grueling weeks of getting up every morning, driving to UNMC, get COVID screened, check in, wait then get my radiation. At week 4 I was done, done, DONE DONE!! With all this crap. I had a royal melt down after the alarm went off (Think, llama llama red pajama with weeping and wailing) and I didn’t truly get my poop in a group until we were in the van on the way to UNMC. That was my hardest/darkest day.
So today was the “Make-up” radiation due to COVID. I hope to never see that wonderful group of ladies at the check in desk (they got a assorted Hershey Kisses), those fabulous radiation room ladies(and 2 guys)are incredibly knowledgeable (they got the Choc Covered almonds), and finally the pleasant radiation desk ladies got the Utz pub mix of assorted bread rounds. I’m hoping to never see any of them again! Brutal, I know.
