FDA Approved for 10 years!

Today was a good day. I actually felt pretty good, totally moved beyond the chemo and radiation fog; that has surrounded me for weeks.  With my daughters help, we dropped the van off for an oil change.  I wondered the aisles in walmart for a few minutes while my husband took our child off to high school.   After 10 minutes I was done browsing, actually exhausted.  I guess I’m not really 100% back to normal yet.  I think it’s gonna take more time.

So if you look at the pictures above.  I’ve got something different in the works for December.    There is actually another treatment available for folks like me with brain cancer (wow, that’s sounds SO blunt, doesn’t it?) I guess it’s better then saying Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM).

Looking at the 1st picture, that’s the web site of the medical company with a product called Optune. The 2nd picture shows my contact lady with the company and the size of the battery, 3rd picture show everything that come with the device,  yes that’s a backpack!  Here’s how it works: instead of radiation and chemo for 6-6 week cycles, 3 weeks off in between each cycle(totaling 54 weeks, or just over a year of grueling treatments). I would wear this device so many hours a day.  The 4th picture shows what the electrode which looks like a crazy big band-aide, all 4 bandaids go on my head strategically placed, plugged into a battery pack.  And just like Ironman they’ll flip the switch on the battery pack and I’ll fly across the room.  No, really an electrical current will waft through my brain and disrupt the mitosis (cell division).  Here’s the kicker. The only side effect is skin irritation from the band-aide glue, NORMAL BRAIN CELLS DON’T DIVIDE, ONLY CANCER CELLS DIVIDE!  This device scrambles the cancer cells so it can’t successfully divide, hence they die!  Success rates are even higher then my initial treatment regiment of chemo and radiation together.  Most likely, depending on my next MRI, on 12/1, my team of 4 neurologist will decide if it’s this device and chemo or what?  So I’m quite pumped.  How long do I wear the electrodes on my head?  18 hours a day, small price to pay!   I can sleep with it on, shower with a shower cap, after unplugging myself, and go about my day!  I hopped on the scale today and I’m down 30 pounds, the husband says “he still can’t see it.”  Tomorrow he’ll punch 2-3 more holes on my belt, the dog!
