Small Graces in Last Hours
Thanks to all who have reached out to our family and honored Albert with your prayers and notes. It is much appreciated.
There were many grace moments in these past weeks with Albert and they continued to the end. Many weeks ago when we were talking about his celebration service I asked Dad what his favorite hymn was. I was a little surprised when he didn't name one of the great Swedish hymns which I know he loved to sing. I double checked it a week later - same answer. Here is that hymn:
- I know not why God’s wondrous grace
To me He hath made known,
Nor why, unworthy, Christ in love
Redeemed me for His own.- Refrain:
But “I know Whom I have believed,
And am persuaded that He is able
To keep that which I’ve committed
Unto Him against that day.”
- Refrain:
- I know not how this saving faith
To me He did impart,
Nor how believing in His Word
Wrought peace within my heart. - I know not how the Spirit moves,
Convincing men of sin,
Revealing Jesus through the Word,
Creating faith in Him. - I know not what of good or ill
May be reserved for me,
Of weary ways or golden days,
Before His face I see. - I know not when my Lord may come,
At night or noonday fair,
Nor if I walk the vale with Him,
Or meet Him in the air.
Sharol and I sang it for him within the hour of his passing. One more grace note - as we were waiting in the quiet of the hospice room for the funeral home to come and transport Dad's body, we heard that same hymn drift through the walls from the adjoining room but this time in Korean. What a great eternal and universal message - against all that we do not know, we know for sure that God is able to keep what we commit to Him for time and eternity. You are safely home Albert. For sure.
