Unexpected Twists and Turns…

When I reread the last update from Sunday it was hard to believe all that’s transpired in less than 48 hours. They decided to do an X-ray to confirm the feeding tube placement before restarting Lee’s nutrition through it. The surgeons who had pushed it back in to position (but did not secure it) were left scratching their heads when the film showed it was already coiled back up in her stomach.

The surgical team called GI back in for a consult but elected to put Lee back on the TPN IV nutrition since she had essentially been fasting for five days. Her body didn’t tolerate the TPN very well initially so they spent most of Monday giving her electrolytes and working to get her labs back in normal ranges. Fortunately, as of this morning everything is back within normal ranges. We also just got word that the GI team plans to attempt repositioning and securing the feeding tube again sometime today. That’s an answer to prayer in itself because we were originally told that couldn’t happen during this trip. Hopefully they’ll have some more creative strategies for keeping it in place this time.

On the positive side, her surgical site looks great and her pain levels from that procedure are very manageable. If the procedure today goes according to plan and there are no other setbacks then we hope she can be discharged on Wednesday. We’ve pushed back our return to Washington until the weekend to provide some buffer and transition time. We would appreciate your prayers today for the tube procedure and I’ll update on our progress one we know any new definitive information. Thanks for your ongoing prayers, love, and support!
