Caleb Rhys O'Brien Update - 7/16/23
Hi everyone,
We wanted to post an update on Caleb since it has been a few months. We are so happy to report that we are now almost 7 months out from Caleb's CAR-T and he continues to be in remission!!! His most recent bone marrow biopsy at the end of June showed that he remains in remission with no evidence on any testing of any leukemia cells! We continue to take him monthly for bloodwork and he continues to need IVIG infusions every two months as a result of the CAR-T continuing to work in his body to patrol for leukemia, but we couldn't be more thrilled with his response to this miracle treatment!
As we approach the one year mark (August 20th) of his relapse, I think we are feeling all kinds of emotions. Mostly gratitude for his response to treatment and for our community of family and friends that continue to support us and remind us we are not alone.
Caleb starts kindergarten in 6 weeks, and is so excited! Thankfully his immune system has completely recovered now so we no longer are living in a bubble! We occasionally still see some moments of physical weakness which just reminds us that his body is still recovering, but overall you would never know the mountains this kid has climbed. And look at that head of hair!
As always, we want to say thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey with us. I don't know if Mike and I will ever feel like we are out of the woods with all of this, but we certainly are breathing a little easier as time goes on. Sending lots of love and eternal gratitude!
