No Partiality

When I went for a chemo appt. in the beginning of June, tensions were high everywhere after the “George Floyd” incident.  My nurse walked in the room and I excitedly said: “Barbara, are you my nurse today?” I had known Barbara from the times before when I had allergic reactions. She is a well-seasoned nurse and was part of the group who stabilized my body after shock. But she was never my personal nurse.

“Yes I am honey!” she said with a smile. Starting my chart, she commented, “Can you believe how people treat each other?” referring to the “Floyd” case. After a moment of silence, I sternly said: “Barbara, was it wrong, yes!” But then I sternly added: “We have all been biased at one time or another. We have all committed the -sin- of partiality.” I went on to say, “if someone has a differing opinion, we might dislike them.

If someone behave’s differently, oftentimes we despise them.

If someone’s culture, religion, race, political views or gender differ, it could even turn to hate crimes.” Then I pointed to the fact that God is the only one who is no respecter of persons. He looks at everyone the same. That’s why He sent Jesus to pay for all our sins. Sad to say at that moment, Barbara needed to start the IV and our conversation ended.

When she left the room, I knew I would be back in two weeks, so I decided to write her a letter in a homemade card with a gift and enclosed pamphlets. Here’s a portion of the letter:

...last time we talked together we spoke about mistreatment in life.  In some way, we’re all guilty of showing partiality. But God sees us all the same. He says He is a God of no partiality. He created every single human being in his own image. He also saw our need to be pardoned from sin and so He sent Jesus to die for all sins, even the sin of partiality. Now we must simply believe on Jesus and accept the pardon He offers and then anyone is free to enter Heaven. I pray you have accepted this gift from God...

As I look back on that time, I can now understand why God chose to wait and set up the perfect opportunity through time and events. God’s timing is best and He used a popular, current issue to flow naturally into the gospel. I stand amazed at my God’s ways and realize I was just a voice.

📖Scripture Blessings

For there is no respect of persons with God.

For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

Romans 2:11-12kvj, Acts 10:34

For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe.

You shall love your neighbor as yourself, you do well; but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors.

Deut. 10:17, James 2:8b-9

“Lord, help us to be people “without partiality and without hypocrisy.”
By Jesus’ power, Amen.
