Surgery morning
Joel's a gem.
Josh (brother), Joel, and I got here at 6a this morning. He got an MRI, which will be the map for the surgery, signed all the many consent forms and answered the many questions, and everything checked out perfectly. Not surprisingly, Joel was kind, calm, funny and ready to GO. (Is the definition of "peace" having an anxiety level of 2/10 before brain surgery?)
Josh, Joel, and I got to meet the team that will be with him (anesthetists, electrode people (?), physician, nurses). We have experienced a lot of kindness, lightheartedness, and careful attention to Joel.
Lots of hugs and kisses later, he went back to the Operating Room around 9a. They'll get him to sleep, place a bunch of electrodes for motor monitoring, get a breathing tube in, get his head ready, do any necessary testing, and in 1-2 hours or so they'll start the actual surgery. We will get updates about every 2 hours from a nurse, so Josh or I will pass those on.
Go Joel!
