I have a detailed update for you all. Today, dear sweet Louis had a routine cardiology appointment with an EKG to check his oxygen levels and blood pressures. His oxygen saturation were at a concerningly low level. We were admitted into the Pediatric ICU where they gave him medicine called, prostaglandin, to try to open up his PDA valve. The PDA is the tiny valve all babies are born with that assists in the mixing of blood between atriums. The medication caused Louis to have some labored breathing, so they gave him a breathing tube which improved his saturations but not enough. Then the doctors performed an emergency stenostomy which runs a catheter to his heart and basically creates a hole in his atrium (Atrial Septal Defect) to allow blood to mix so oxygenated blood is getting to his lungs. He is out of that procedure and resting.
We are waiting to hear from our doctors. His surgery is scheduled for Monday October 10th, very early in the morning.
Dan and I are looking forward to the days where we are arguing over who has to finish the laundry and wash a sink full of bottles. We know we are in good hands here at DeVos but boy, today has been terrifying. We could use all your love.
