9/23/20 Update
We got to see Callahan today after 2 weeks 🙌🏼Our hearts are full as we left the hospital. Callahan looked great considering all she has been through. She is extremely frustrated and anxious which is normal for this part of the recovery. This part of the recovery is now her going through the process of grieving everything that she is gone through. Although it's tough we have to remember that we have had a few weeks to process before her.
Cal is still on a feeding tube since she cannot swallow quit yet. Although she has made it clear though that she wants to drink, they cannot let her drink water quite yet since the water would go to her lungs instead of down the correct way. Cal also still has the lung tubes in as they are wanting her lungs to get stronger before they take those out. The biggest things we are focusing on and praying for right now is that her lungs continue to strengthen so we can start the process of moving her out of the ICU. She is going to be in the ICU for a little bit longer which we are comforted about since she has made a strong bond with the nurses. They have been phenomenal at holding her hand and comforting her through the process. When we saw her we were so impressed that the nurses had a laminated paper with symbols on it to help her communicate since she cannot speak. She was able to process and point to a picture to let the nurses know she was thirsty. We are so unbelievably grateful for the incredible care and attention from the doctors and nurses.
She is very weak and just our visit tired her out but we do know that the old Callahan is in there because when Jim entered the room she threw the nurse call remote 🤪Even though our visits were short it was just amazing to be able to see her and reassure her in person and to comfort her with kisses.
Thanks to everyone for all the love and support today! We are so grateful and blessed ❤️
