First Update
On Monday, September 30th, Robbie checked himself into Marin General Hospital. He had been experiencing some numbness in his left hand for just over a week. An MRI proved that Robbie had in fact suffered a stroke. He was admitted for further testing. The doctors found that both the main arteries in his neck were considerably clogged. A small piece of the build-up in his artery broke off in a clot that had reached his brain and caused this initial stroke.
Sometime over night on Tuesday, October 1st a second piece broke off and caused a more serious stroke. It was this 2nd stroke that has caused additional and more severe damage to his motor system in which mobility of his left arm, left leg and speech have been greatly impacted. This has been a major and life altering event for him and us (his family).
But amidst the trauma, what we are most grateful for is that Robbie has not lost one ounce of his alertness, awareness and sense of humor. He is fully aware of everything that has transpired, all events, dates, can recount all visitors and regularly engages in a hearty laugh...not surprising for those who know him.
Since the second stroke, Robbie has shown tremendous energy and already great signs of improvement in his speech and willingness to work towards his recovery. We know that this is not going to be a speedy recovery process and ready for the long haul to get him 100% healed.
We are overwhelmed by the steady and massive stream of love and support. Our phones and emails are exploding with offers of help, desires to visit, and lots of Robbie love. We can’t thank everyone enough for all the kind words and offers to help. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
In these first few days we have been doing our best to let Robbie rest and start to heal. Visiting is encouraged and Robbie loves it. We only ask for you to give us advance notice so we can get it on the calendar and give you the lowdown on what to expect. It is important that we schedule visits to maximize Robbie’s healing energy.
Very soon, he will be moved to a rehabilitation facility and eventually home to begin the road to recovery. It will be at this time when his giant community of friends and family will be needed most...to keep him company, his spirits high and his jolly laugh going.
If you’d like to visit please email: [email protected]. His wife and children will be monitoring this account and responding regularly and setting up visits, until Robbie himself takes over.
Please feel free to leave messages here for Robbie and check back for ongoing updates. He will love to hear from you! Many thanks!!!
