Travel to Lubbock & Turkey Day friends
Update for Shannon's support network (written by Holly from Louisville)
The week before Thanksgiving, Shannon's friends Beth and Randy visited her in Houston. Along with Shannon's brother Steve, they went with her to MD Anderson where she received her first Avastin infusion. This goes after the blood vessels that are feeding tumor cells, so it is a tumor-starving therapy. It also gave Shannon some headache relief but we won't know for sure how it's working on the tumor until the next MRI in mid-December.
Beth and Randy also took Shannon on the adventuresome trek to Lubbock and helped her get settled at home with Aidan and Pancake. Her mom and stepdad are also here taking amazing care of her! She does need help getting up and down without the use of her left side. Her memory is also a bit spotty so we get to have conversations multiple times and now have a whiteboard by her bed to remind her of the plans for the day.
When Shannon got home to Lubbock, she enjoyed an outing with colleagues. She's also enjoyed some self-care in the form of a massage, facial, and mani/pedi.
Thanksgiving week delivered her dear friend Amy. Her mom Angie made wonderful Keto dishes for Turkey Day - kudos to Jason who also contributed Keto-friendly pie and brownies.
Black Friday deals were secured for Aidan's Christmas wishlist - thanks Amazon! Friend Holly finally made it here after travel adventures. Amy, Holly, and Shannon reminisced on the good ole days and a few of Shannon's friends came by for a visit. We ended the evening with a slumber party and movie in bed!
Shannon is so grateful to have friends that make her feel so loved. We've embraced the season of gratitude so here's what she wants to share....
Shannon is grateful to be alive and for family & friends. She's grateful to have people in her life willing to take care of her and come to visit. She's grateful to have the resources to buy the things she needs and take care of her boy. She's grateful for the cinnamon in her coffee :).
As she has more trouble getting around and tasks are harder, she is becoming more preoccupied with Aidan's future. He will be taken care of with a trust and she invites all of her friends to support him as he goes through high school and considers his plans for college and beyond.
Shannon's mom Angie is loving her up and taking care of her every need. It's incredible to see a mother's love - she's patient, funny, meticulously tracking food, supplements, and doctor visits, and helping with bathroom visits and daily showers. She loves picking out Shannon's clothes (loved the skinny jeans she picked out last night). With Amy and I here with Shannon, she got to go on a date night with her husband and grandson - her two favorite men!
