One Year Anniversary of Jake's Accident
Well, today is the day, it is Jake's one year anniversary of his accident. All I can say is I am so glad this year is behind us. It has been the most trying life event of our lifetime and I, Jeff and Jake never want to live through another tragic event such as this ever again.
Today also marks another event, Jeff and Jake took off at 7AM this Easter morning to drive to Fort Riley located in Kansas, to complete Jacob's honorable discharge paperwork and finalize his Army retirement. It will be a trying and tiring trip for Jake as he will be there for a few days with Jeff, but it was mandatory he had to go to complete this process. They made it there safely within 10 hours and Jeff made sure he allowed for 4 pit-stops for Jacob to get out to stretch, snack and eat, get out to try to walk and soak up the southern sunshine to relax. Jacob is in very good hands- as Jeff is the best and most patient caregiver, and he ensures the highest quality care for our Jake.
This is the second year in a row that we have not celebrated Easter as a family, and this is not so bad, as we will start new family rituals to focus on the celebration of life each April. As the week after next, is Jake's 20th birthday, and we will be starting this new family ritual- as we will be leaving the states to head to a Caribbean destination for a good number of days to soak up some sun and sand, and take our first break in two years to slow down, disconnect from the tech and spend quality family together without any appointments or schedules. Life is good :-)
Happy Easter Everyone,
Jeff, Naomi and Jake
