Healing Can Be a Bit Ugly
It's great to be home. Right now I'm sitting on our front porch, all bundled up in my comfy bathrobe and a quilt since it's surprisingly nippy out. I'm surrounded by birds of all sorts chirping away, and some of the flowers gifted to me are decorating the tables beside me.
Pat has been wonderful. Yesterday we went for a drive in the rain because I wanted to take a look at a vintage gas station and just see all the greenery. As much as I have the wanderlust to see other landforms and cultures, I don't think there is any place prettier than spring in northeastern PA.
And as for Memorial Day, my first day home! My mom and dad went over the top to make sure I had the grilled hot dogs and hamburgers I said I was craving. They showed up with a grill strapped to the bed of their pick-up. We had the perfect picnic meal -- including desserts that looked like mini hot dogs and hamburgers. We had such a great day hanging out on the front porch.
But I'll be honest, these longer dangles are quite painful. The flap itself is holding steady, but my foot gets so angry in color and swollen by the time the minutes are up, that I have been considering contacting the plastics team. But then, when I look over the paperwork or investigate online, this all seems like the normal progression of healing. Even the fluid coming out of the drain is different now, and to me uglier -- it turns out it's a sign of healing.
As soon as my leg is elevated again, the pain subsides, and the swelling and color go back to normal. Pat's sister Donna, who is a nurse, is stopping by after her shift today, so I will see what she thinks.
Please say a prayer for my poor Lizzy who is sick again. She really needs to get to school to catch up on her missing assignments but she is really struggling with congestion, body aches, and exhaustion. She has already been on two rounds of antibiotics this quarter, plus had viral infections. We've come a long way this year with her health, but she still has a way to go.
It's so hard to see her sick all the time.
It's good she will have the summer to rest and recuperate.
